The Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) bid farewell to its Project Director, Dr Hovithal Sothu, during an official programme held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, Kohima on May 26. Dr Sothu, who joined TaFMA on November 30, 2018, as Project Director, concluded a successful tenure of over seven years.
Speaking at the farewell programme, Dr Hovithal Sothu expressed gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for entrusting him with the opportunity to work alongside the State’s talented artists. He stated that throughout his tenure, he had dedicated himself to promoting the creative potential of Nagaland’s artists and ensuring that musicians and performers from various disciplines could earn a sustainable livelihood through their art.
He also thanked the officers and staff of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for their constant support and guidance during his time as Project Director. Dr Sothu further acknowledged the invaluable encouragement and cooperation of TaFMA Chairman Theja Meru and Advisor to the Chief Minister Abu Metha, stating that their support played a crucial role in the achievements of TaFMA during his tenure.
Abu Metha praised the remarkable achievements and progress made by TaFMA under Dr. Sothu’s leadership. He acknowledged Dr. Sothu’s contributions and sacrifices in promoting “Brand Nagaland” at both national and international platforms.

Describing him as the backbone of TaFMA, Abu Metha said that Dr Sothu had served the State and its people with unwavering dedication and commitment. He added that Dr Sothu’s understanding of artists and their aspirations had transformed hundreds of lives and turned many dreams into reality.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, S Keoshu Yimkhiung, also lauded Dr Sothu for empowering young artists of Nagaland to perform at the highest levels and for mentoring them toward success in their respective fields.
TaFMA Chairman Theja Meru expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr Hovithal Sothu for serving the people of Nagaland with integrity, dedication and unwavering commitment. He remarked that TaFMA was fortunate to have Dr Sothu as its Project Director and credited him with significantly contributing to the growth of music and arts in the State, while helping Naga musicians and artists gain recognition on the global stage.
Several renowned artists from the music fraternity also paid tribute to the outgoing Project Director, describing him as humble, approachable, and deeply committed to the welfare of artists. They thanked him for treating artists and musicians with dignity and respect, and for providing opportunities that helped many achieve levels they once only dreamed of.
