Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has notified new speed limits for vehicles on selected routes in the district in the interest of public safety. The order has been issued under Section 112(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act and has come into force from June 1, 2026.
As per the notification, the maximum speed limit has been fixed at 50 kmph on NH-29 from Zion Hospital Junction to Chümoukedima, 30 kmph within Dimapur city limits, and 80 kmph on the new four-lane NH-29 bypass from Kushiabill towards Chathe Bridge (Patkai/Seithekema).
The notification also states that heavy vehicles, trucks and commercial vehicles shall not be parked or stopped on national highways except at designated bays, lay-bys or wayside amenities. In case of breakdowns or emergencies, drivers must use hazard lights and reflective triangles to warn other road users.

The public has been advised to strictly adhere to the prescribed speed limits and traffic regulations. Violators will be liable for action under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
