More than 20 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination conducted on June 21 at 5,440 centres across India and 14 centres overseas, marking one of the largest entrance examinations ever held in the country. The examination was conducted in 13 languages, including Hindi and English, with extensive arrangements made to ensure a smooth, secure and transparent process.
According to an official release issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the successful conduct of the examination was made possible through coordinated efforts involving multiple ministries, government agencies, educational institutions and security personnel across the country.
The NTA stated that special attention was given to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all candidates. More than 10,000 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) were provided necessary support and accommodations during the examination. Additionally, special provisions were arranged for around 81 candidates with serious medical conditions, including a child recovering from a road accident and another undergoing chemotherapy treatment, enabling them to take the examination without difficulty.
To maintain the integrity of the examination process, the NTA implemented several enhanced security measures. These included Aadhaar-based biometric verification and face authentication, CCTV surveillance at examination centres, signal jammers to prevent electronic malpractice and a two-layer frisking system supported by State Police personnel.
A comprehensive monitoring mechanism was also established through command and control centres set up at the NTA headquarters, the Ministry of Education, 34 Centrally Funded Institutions under the Department of Higher Education, as well as in all States and District Collectorates. These centres monitored live CCTV feeds to ensure strict compliance with examination protocols.
The examination received logistical and operational support from a wide range of government agencies, including the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Posts, Indian Air Force, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Department of Financial Services and the Ministry of Education.

Banking partners such as the State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB) and UCO Bank also assisted in various aspects of the examination process, alongside State Governments and local authorities.
The NTA further acknowledged the significant contribution of State Governments, which facilitated the examination by providing drinking water, shade and food arrangements for candidates and accompanying parents at several centres. Ambulances and medical teams were kept on standby, while many states also arranged free transportation services to help candidates reach their examination centres on time.
According to the agency, nearly seven lakh personnel, including police officials, observers, invigilators and examination staff, were deployed nationwide to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination. The NTA noted that the entire exercise was organised within a record period of just 37 days.
The agency also expressed gratitude to subject experts and academicians from institutions across the country who contributed to the preparation and vetting of multiple sets of question papers, ensuring fairness and confidentiality throughout the examination process.
Describing the operation as one of the largest coordinated examination exercises undertaken in the country, the NTA said the successful conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination reflected the collective commitment of various stakeholders towards providing a fair, secure and accessible testing environment for aspiring medical students.
