National Immunization Day observed in Dimapur, Longleng and Bhandari

The district-level launch of the National Immunization Day (NID) was held at the District Hospital, Dimapur on June 29 to kick-start the nationwide Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign aimed at protecting children from poliovirus.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by District immunization officer District Hospital Dimapur, Dr Anungla Longkumer, who highlighted that although India has remained polio-free for over a decade, the poliovirus continues to exist in some parts of the world. She stated that the Pulse Polio programme is being continued to strengthen immunity among children and raise awareness about poliomyelitis, thereby ensuring that the country maintains its polio-free status.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by EAC, Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur, who administered the first oral polio drops to a child, marking the official launch of the district-wide immunization drive.

Observed as Polio Day, the campaign is being conducted across all districts with the objective of administering oral polio vaccine to every child below five years of age, irrespective of their previous immunization status. This year’s drive is being carried out under the theme, ” Let the Victory over Polio Continue with Two Drops of Life”.

Health officials appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that all eligible children receive the life-saving vaccine, emphasizing that sustained community participation is vital to preventing the re-emergence of poliomyelitis and safeguarding India’s hard-earned polio-free status.

The immunization drive commenced at 8:30 a.m. at the District Hospital, Dimapur, in the presence of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), healthcare workers and district officials. Similar vaccination activities are being conducted at designated booths and outreach centres across the district to ensure maximum coverage of all eligible children.

Longleng:

The District Health Society, Longleng officially launched National Immunization Day (NID) Polio Campaign 2026  at NST Junction, Longleng, on June 28.

The programme began with an invocation by Tenau, Associate Pastor for Youth, LTBC, who prayed for the successful implementation of the campaign.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr ImtiiungshiAier, DPO (RCH/UIP), Longleng, emphasized the importance of the National Immunization Day campaign and urged all parents and caregivers to ensure that every child below five years of age receives the two drops of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). He stressed that every eligible child must be vaccinated, regardless of previous immunization status, to keep the community protected from polio.

Er Vinoh Swu, EAC HQ, Longleng, spoke on the significance of polio eradication and appealed to the public to extend their full cooperation in making the campaign a success. He emphasized that safeguarding every child through immunization is a collective responsibility and encouraged parents to ensure that no eligible child is left behind.

The National Immunization Day Polio Campaign was formally launched by Er Vinoh Swu, EAC, Longleng, marking the commencement of the district-wide immunization drive.

On this occasion, extensive awareness activities were also carried out across Longleng District. Public awareness was created through miking in all parts of the district, while Information, Education and Communication (IEC) posters were pasted in and around Longleng town as well as in villages to inform and encourage parents and caregivers to bring all eligible children for polio vaccination. Similarly, NID Polio Sunday was observed in all the health unit under Longleng District

Bhandari:

A three-day Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaign is being conducted under Bhandari block from June 28th to 30th June 2026. Polio vaccination booths have been set up at various locations in Bhandari Town and in villages under the Bhandari block.

A total of 58 booths were set up under the block where children aged 0 to 5 years were administered oral Polio vaccine.

Following, the booths based Immunization drive house to house coverage will be carried out by designated teams on the subsequent days to ensure that no eligible child is left out.
