Phek police arrest man in minor sexual assault case; urges public to protect victim’s identity

Phek Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor boy following the registration of a case under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to a statement issued by Phek Police, a written First Information Report (FIR) was received on July 1 alleging that a minor child had been sexually assaulted by the accused.

Based on the complaint, Phek Women Police Station Case No. 0005/26 was registered under Sections 4, 5(1)(m), 6, 8, 10 and 12 of the POCSO Act, and an investigation was immediately initiated.

A special investigation team was constituted by Phek Police, which apprehended the accused on the same day. After completion of the necessary legal formalities, the accused was produced before the competent authority and remanded to judicial custody.

Police stated that the victim is currently stable and is receiving appropriate care, protection and support.

Phek Police has appealed to the public to respect the privacy and dignity of the child and refrain from sharing or circulating any information that could reveal the victim’s identity.

The police cautioned that disclosure of a child victim’s identity is a punishable offence under Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Section 23 of the POCSO Act, and Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Reiterating its commitment to ensuring justice, Phek Police assured the public that every effort is being made to complete the investigation expeditiously and bring the case to its logical conclusion.

Appealing for collective responsibility, the police stated, “Children are the future of our society,” it said and appealed to every citizen to join hands in creating a safe, secure and protective environment where children can thrive and shine.
