The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has reiterated its demand for strict adherence to the principle of “One Government, One Tax” and warned of coordinated public agitation if any underground faction threatens, intimidates or attempts to shut down business establishments over non-payment of illegal demands.
In a statement, AYO said it remained committed to a peaceful and honourable resolution of the Naga political issue but maintained that political aspirations could not be used to justify the financial exploitation and harassment of the public.
Reaffirming the 1993 resolution of the Angami Public Organisation (APO) advocating “One Government, One Tax,” AYO said people had endured parallel taxation for decades in the hope of a peaceful settlement. However, it alleged that such demands had increasingly shifted from political contributions to commercialised extortion, placing a heavy burden on the economy.
AYO called on citizens, businesspersons, entrepreneurs and organisations to refuse illegal financial demands. It also urged Naga national workers to refrain from harassing or extorting business establishments and individuals.
Appealing to all Naga political groups to respect the sentiments of the Angami community and honour the resolution, AYO cautioned against actions that could lead to conflict.

Outlining its demands, AYO called for strict enforcement of the “One Government, One Tax” principle, stating that no individual, business house or contractor should entertain or pay taxes, annual fees or festive demands to any underground faction.
The organisation expressed solidarity with the business community and the public, warning that any threats, intimidation or attempts to close shops over non-payment would be met with immediate and coordinated public agitation.
AYO also urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement of the rule of law and ensure the safety of citizens.
Further, it called for every District Executive Force to establish a dedicated and confidential helpline or grievance cell to enable the public to report illegal taxation and extortion. It urged authorities to make effective use of the online portal Suraksha.PoliceNagaland.com and the helpline provided by the Crime Branch at Police Headquarters.
AYO appealed to the public to remain vigilant, united and firm in opposing illegal demands.
