FBMP conducts half-yearly review meeting at Mokokchung

The Forest and Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya (Nagaland) Project (FBMP) conducted its Half-Yearly Review Meeting at Marepkong Community Hall, Mokokchung, to assess implementation progress, address key challenges and outline the way forward for biodiversity conservation and community-based natural resource management.

FBMP is a German Government-assisted project financed through KfW Development Bank. Initiated in 2021, it is being implemented in five districts of Nagaland by the State Forest Department and NEPED across thirteen theme based selected conservation landscapes covering 64 villages, with active participation of Community Conserved Area Management Committees.

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Hukato Chishi, IFS, Deputy Project Director and CF (STC). Representatives from Tuensang, Wokha, Kohima, Peren and Mokokchung Forest Divisions, along with NEPED-I and NEPED-II, presented the progress, achievements and implementation challenges in their respective landscapes.

The review covered ongoing conservation measures, springshed proposals, Human-Elephant Conflict mitigation, implementation of FPIC and MoU provisions, institutional and physical connectivity, project log frame updates, GIS surveys, geotagging of anthropogenic activities, financial progress, documentation, annual reports, signage, convergence with government departments, livelihood interventions, high-value NRM maps and inspection of civil structures.

The meeting also discussed the Conservation Fund mechanism, selection of pilot villages, development of livelihood enterprises and greater participation of churches and faith-based institutions in conservation initiatives. Emphasis was placed on timely implementation, accurate reporting, proper documentation, effective coordination and regular field monitoring.

Aochuba, IFS, CF (NTC), delivered the concluding remarks, followed by the address and way forward by  Sidramappa Chalkapure, IFS, CF (D&P) and Project Director, FBMP.

The meeting reaffirmed FBMP’s commitment to sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation and improved rural livelihoods through coordinated action among government agencies, local communities and project stakeholders.
