Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a high-level meeting with Members of Parliament from Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to review the flood and landslide situation in the two northeastern states and assured continued Central support for relief, rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
The meeting focused on assessing the impact of the ongoing monsoon, expediting relief measures, restoring damaged infrastructure and ensuring assistance reaches affected families at the earliest.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister said the Centre would continue working closely with the governments of both states to address the challenges posed by the natural calamity.
“Had a meeting with MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. We talked about the situation in these states in the wake of floods there. The Central Government will keep working with the respective state Governments to address the challenges. Praying for everyone’s wellbeing and safety,” Modi posted on X.
The meeting was attended by Arunachal Pradesh MPs Tapir Gao, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Rajya Sabha member Tai Tagak. Nagaland was represented by Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir and Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak.
The review comes amid widespread devastation caused by continuous monsoon rains across the Northeast. Nearly 1.5 lakh people have been affected in Arunachal Pradesh due to floods and landslides, while Nagaland has also witnessed multiple fatalities, extensive damage to infrastructure and displacement of families in several districts.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over parts of the Northeast from July 30 to August 1, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, with possible spillover impacts on adjoining districts of Assam such as Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur.
An orange alert has also been issued for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland, where intense rainfall could affect neighbouring Assam districts, including Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat.
Authorities have warned that the prevailing weather conditions could aggravate waterlogging, flash floods, localised landslides and disrupt road connectivity in vulnerable areas. District administrations and disaster management agencies have kept emergency response teams on standby and are closely monitoring the situation.
Earlier this month, Mon district witnessed one of the worst rain-related disasters in the state when massive landslides struck several locations, claiming nine lives and injuring 12 others. Rescue operations involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Assam Rifles, police personnel and local volunteers were launched immediately after the incident.
