Mokokchung reviews disaster preparedness amid monsoon threat

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman  District Disaster management Authority (DDMA), Mokokchung  Ajit Kumar  Verma, IAS  held an emergency  co-ordination meeting with  stakeholders at  the DC”s  Conference  Hall on  August 5 to review the  current  preparedness and strengthen preventive measures against  potential natural  calamities and other unforeseen disaster incident in Mokokchung  town.

The meeting was convened  as a proactive measures to assess existing vulnerabilities, particularly in view  of the  ongoing rainy  season,  and to  ensure timely  preparedness and  coordinated  responses in  the  event  of  any  disaster.

During the meeting, stakeholders deliberated on various areas within Mokokchung  town that are prone to mudslides, drainage related issues and other rain induced hazards.

Necessary mitigation and preventive measures were discussed to minimise risks and  safeguard lives and  property .

As part of the preparedness exercise, all Ward representatives were assigned to conduct an assessment of vulnerable and disaster prone  areas within  their respective jurisdictions. They were also  directed to  identify locations requiring immediate  attention and report the same  for necessary intervention by the concerned authorities.

The meeting  stressed the  importance of proactive disaster preparedness, timely identification of vulnerable areas, close coordination among stakeholders and prompt action to prevent avoidable loss  of life and property.
