The Planning & Transformation Department, Government of Nagaland, organised an orientation programme for candidates selected to undergo UPSC coaching at Vajiram & Ravi, New Delhi, at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima on August 10.
Principal Secretary and Development Commissioner Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, while addressing the selected candidates said that while they were presently students, he saw them as future officers and leaders who would have an important role in leading the State and serving the people. He urged the candidates to trust in God, respect their parents and elders, thoroughly study, and manage their time effectively. Emphasizing that success comes through hard work and perseverance, he encouraged them to remain disciplined and committed throughout their preparation.
Sema highlighted that the State Government has been supporting indigenous students preparing for competitive examinations, including the UPSC Civil Services Examination, under the Chief Minister’s Corpus Fund (CMCF) for the past four years. He informed that, including the current year, approximately ₹277 lakh has been spent on sponsoring such students.
Sema highlighted the Government’s commitment to investing in the youth and future generations of Nagaland. He said that despite resource constraints, the Government would continue to invest in education and capacity building to build a transformed society based on peace and prosperity. He informed that ₹64.5 lakh had been earmarked for the current batch of candidates selected for UPSC coaching at Vajiram & Ravi, New Delhi.
He said the candidates had been selected through a merit-based process following an examination conducted on July 25, based on the UPSC pattern. He further informed that the department would closely monitor their attendance and performance during the coaching period, with a minimum requirement of 90 per cent attendance.

Calling the candidates an investment in the future of the State, Sema urged them to make the best use of the opportunity and bring honour and glory to their parents, communities and Nagaland.
Addressing the selected candidates, Joint Development Commissioner, Heinswading congratulated them on their selection for the UPSC coaching programme and urged them to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the Government. He informed that out of around 120 candidates who appeared for the selection process, 30 were selected for the programme.
He said the opportunity to undergo coaching at Vajiram & Ravi, New Delhi, one of the premier institutions for civil services preparation in the country, would provide the candidates with a valuable platform to learn, compete and interact with aspirants from across the country. He urged them to approach the programme with sincerity, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.
Heinswading appreciated the Government of Nagaland for investing in the aspirations of the State’s youth and providing them with an opportunity to pursue their goals. Describing the initiative as an investment in the future of the young generation, he encouraged the candidates to make the most of the opportunity, strive for excellence and return with positive results to contribute to the State and the nation.
The programme also included the signing of undertakings by the selected candidates, followed by an interactive session comprising questions and answers, sharing of experiences, and discussion of concerns raised by the candidates.
The selected candidates expressed their gratitude to the Government of Nagaland and the Planning & Transformation Department for providing them with the opportunity to undergo UPSC coaching at Vajiram & Ravi, New Delhi. They said they were committed to making the best use of the opportunity provided by the Government and would put in their sincere efforts towards achieving their goals and contributing to the service of the State and the nation.
