Member of Parliament from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir has been elected as a Member of the Lok Sabha to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Guwahati.

As per Lok Sabha Bulletin No. 5973 dated 7 August 2026, the election was conducted pursuant to the motion adopted by the Lok Sabha on July 28 for the election of one Member of Lok Sabha to AIIMS, Guwahati.

Two nominations were initially received for the position. Subsequently, one candidate withdrew his candidature, and with the number of remaining candidates being equal to the number of members to be elected, S Supongmeren Jamir was declared duly elected to serve as a Member of AIIMS, Guwahati, under the provisions of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956.

The election was necessitated following the vacancy arising from the resignation of Pradyut Bordoloi from the Lok Sabha.

Supongmeren Jamir expressed his gratitude to the Members of Parliament and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing constructively towards the development of AIIMS Guwahati and strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast.

His election to the institute is significant for the region, as AIIMS Guwahati is an important institution serving the healthcare and medical-education needs of Assam and the wider Northeast.

He stated that he would use the opportunity to advocate for accessible, affordable and quality healthcare, improved medical education, advanced research facilities and stronger healthcare infrastructure for the people of the region.

As the elected Lok Sabha Member representing Nagaland, Jamir said he would continue to raise issues concerning the Northeast and work towards ensuring that the region receives due attention in the development of national healthcare institutions.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat subsequently communicated the election to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, on August 10.
