Hanrenla K, Coordinator of the Education Block Resource Centre (EBRC), Pungro Block under Kiphire district, Nagaland, has been conferred the National Award for Innovation and Good Practices in Educational Administration by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi.

Hanrenla was among 84 awardees selected from 22 States and Union Territories for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 award cycles. The awards were presented by Padma Shri Prof JS Rajput, former Director of NCERT, and Prof Rama Shankar Dubey, Chancellor of NIEPA, during a two-day National Conference held in New Delhi on September 2 and 3.

The awards recognise education officers who conceive and implement innovative practices in educational administration, with particular emphasis on grassroots initiatives that have the potential to strengthen educational delivery but often remain confined to local areas.

More than 300 nominations were received for the awards, from which 84 district- and block-level education officers were shortlisted and recognised for their innovative contributions.

Hanrenla’s recognition has been welcomed by the Lihpikihna Foundation, Kiphire, which acknowledged her contribution to advancing education in the district, particularly her initiative to establish Hanging Libraries in Pungro Block. The initiative has helped promote access to learning resources while bringing national recognition to the region.

The EBRC Office, Pungro, also congratulated Hanrenla, describing the award as recognition of her dedication, innovative leadership and commitment to educational excellence. It highlighted her contributions to strengthening schools, supporting teachers and promoting effective educational practices across Pungro Block.

The recognition is being seen as an encouragement for education personnel at the grassroots level to pursue innovative approaches and contribute to improving the quality and accessibility of education.
