The Yimkha Village Council has imposed a ban on fishing and hunting methods that threaten wildlife and aquatic life within the village jurisdiction, covering the Echuchu, Jayi and Noyi rivers, their downstream areas and adjoining forested areas.

In continuation of its earlier resolution banning fishing and hunting, the council has strictly prohibited the use of chemicals such as bleaching powder, lime and explosives, as well as electric current generated through batteries or other electrical devices for fishing in the designated rivers.

However, traditional fishing methods, including community fishing, cast-net fishing and angling, have been permitted.

The council has also strictly prohibited the use of air-guns throughout Yimkha village jurisdiction.

It warned that anyone violating the order will be summoned before the village court and fined Rs 7,000 per person.

The order will come into force with immediate effect from September 20, 2026, the council stated.
