The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026, was officially launched at Directorate, Urban Development organised by SBM (U), UD and SBM Gramin, PHED on September 17 which would conclude on October 2.
Director, Urban Development, Tarachu Fithu expressed that in order to offer tribute to the Mahatma Gandhi on his Jayanti, October 2 is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas.
As a prelude to that, to strengthen voluntarism and collective action for a Clean India, a fortnight of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (SHS) has been observed since 2017. The annual ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign is held from September 17 to October 2 (Swachh Bharat Diwas) to mobilize widespread citizen action & ownership for Swachhata.
He said that, as part of SHS 2026, five pillars of activities are to be carried out by local bodies, states, line departments and public sector enterprises which are, Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUS) & Clean Public Places, Swachh Paathshala (clean Institution of learning)- Yuva for Swachhata (Youth for cleanliness), SafaiMitra Suraksha Seva Evam Samman Shivir (Sanitation Workers’ Safety, Service, and Respect Camp), Jan Bhaagidari for Swachhata (people’s participation for cleanliness) and Swachhata Se Samriddhi (wealth from cleanliness).

He mentioned that active participation of Line Departments is essential for the successful implementation of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026, as sanitation and cleanliness require a ‘whole-of-government’ and ‘whole-of-society’ approach.
Fithu also stated that a State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) has been constituted with members drawn from stakeholder departments/ agencies including, Urban Development, PHED, Forest & Environment, Health & Family Welfare, Tourism, School Education, Higher & Technical Education, Information and Public Relations, Rural Development, Municipal Affairs, NPCB, and NGOs & civil societies, and State and Central Missions.
The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign will be conducted across the State from 17th September 2026 to 2nd October 2026, with all stakeholder departments actively participating in their assigned roles and the activities of the event will be monitored, recorded and uploaded in the portal, he added.
Meanwhile, the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 was launched by Commissioner & Secretary, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs department, Kekhrievor Kevichusa who also administered the pledge of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.
