An awareness and sensitisation programme on Legal Rights and Protection for Women and Children under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India was held at Vamuzo Memorial Town Hall, Chozuba on September 18. The programme was organised by the District Administration Phek, under Mission Shakti, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
In her keynote address, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chozuba, Zapuno Khatso, NCS, said that the awareness programme aimed to promote a safe and peaceful society in order to create a secure environment for children and women in the society.
Vileno K Thisa, District Mission Coordinator of DHEW highlighted the Schemes/ programme components for Women under Mission Shakti. She stated that since its inception, Mission Shakti had made a large impact on society. She also stressed the need for strict adherence to guidelines concerning the protection of children and women, cautioning that ignorance of the provisions could lead to serious consequences. She informed that the mission provides 24 X 7 services.
Menu-u Tsuhah, Centre Administrator, Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), Phek, highlighted the facilities provided by the Centre, like counselling and free shelter for up to 20 days, as and when needed, monetary assistant to help victims and facilitates video conferencing for consultation. She also appealed to the gathering to avail the services whenever required. She informed that 153 cases had been registered at phek OSC, with cases like rape and domestic violence.

Sekhotso Rokha, Retainer Lawyer of Phek DLSA delivered a lecture on Provisions of POCSO Act.” He spoke on the availability of free legal services for children and women, as well as eligible persons with annual income below Rs 1,00,000. He informed that 28 cases had been registered in the district durinh the current year, of which 15 cases were POCSO cases,
Dr Cthitu Nienu, NCS Extra Assistant Commissioner chaired the programme, who also gave the closing remarks. Leaders from various villages and fronter organisations attended the programme.
