Nagaland State Government would honour Theja Rio for his exemplary achievement in the field of cinema by winning the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Canada. A felicitating programme will be organised for his achievement at the State Banquet Hall, Chief Minister’s Residential Complex, Kohima at 6 p.m. on September 30.

Theja Rio’s debut feature film, Angh, had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2026. The film won the Platform Prize at TIFF, becoming the first film from India to win the award. Starting in 2026, the winner of the Platform Prize (non-English language) becomes eligible for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and by winning the Platform Prize at TIFF, Angh has automatically qualified for consideration in the International Feature Film Category at the 2027 Academy Awards.

The cast and crew of the film, Angh, will also be felicitated during the programme.

The programme will be attended by the Chief Minister, Ministers, Advisors, MLAs, senior government officials including AHoDs and HoDs, representatives from the film fraternity and well-wishers.
