St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, celebrated its 36th Graduation Day at the College Indoor Stadium on October 10 marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of its graduating students. The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, as the special guest.
Addressing the graduating students, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged them to pursue their dreams with determination, uphold integrity and dedicate their achievements to the service of society.
Sharing about his personal journey from a humble family background to the civil services, the DC highlighted the importance of perseverance, hard work and faith in overcoming challenges. Recalling his early setbacks in the civil service examinations, he said failure should not be considered the end of the journey but an opportunity to learn, improve and try again.
Drawing from his experience as the first Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board, he stressed the importance of building transparent, fair and trustworthy institutions for future generations. He urged the graduates to work not merely for personal achievements, but also to create something meaningful for those who would come after them.
The DC further encouraged the students to remain curious, continue learning and adapt to a rapidly changing world, shaped by technology and artificial intelligence. He emphasised that while competence may help a person attain a position, character and integrity determine how that position is used.
