Lhisemia Thinuo Gate (Kharu) was inaugurated in Merübotsa by the chairman of Kohima Village Council, Helievio Solo, the chief guest, on 10 December.

The inauguration took place in the presence of MLA 10th Northern Angami -1 A/C, Khriehu Liezietsu, the guest of honour, and hundreds of people

Speaking on the occasion, Solo congratulated Lhisemia Council and all its members involved in the making of its magnificent gate.

He said the gate hitherto was built for two reasons – defensive purposes and mostly for to and fro movement for the villagers going to the fields. However, the tradition of gate construction at the present-day generation has lost its significance over the years due to the transition of culture. In spite of losing its trend and tradition, the Council has renewed the age-old tradition and constructed the gate that was an example of unity and understanding, the chairman said.

He further said Kohima village is a blessed village due to the onset of early education and the coming of Christianity to the village. Kohima village is also blessed to have the State’s capital in its land besides having a vast tract of land for development, he added.

During the inaugural programme, greetings were delivered by the chairman of Lhisemia Council, Ayie Yhome.

The Gate Committee report was given by the convenor of Lhisemia Gate Committee, Neiboulhoulie Yhome while a brief report on the symbols inscribed on the Gate was presented by member of Lhisemia Gate Committee, Vilalhou Noudi.

Menguseü Suokhrie presented a special number while a folksong was presented by Kiyaheü Tseikha and friends.

Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Rev Keviyiekielie Linyü, invoked God’s blessing. A vote of thanks was proposed by General Secretary, Mengukhrietuo Marcus Dzüvichü. The programme was chaired by Neingusalie Khruomo.
