The Department of Economics and Statistics Office (DESO), Wokha, organized a Block-Level Training and Sensitization Programme on the Registration of Births and Deaths Act and the online Civil Registration System (CRS) at the DESO Conference Hall, Wokha on October 15. The programme, which will continue across various ranges and blocks in the district over the coming days, aims to strengthen awareness and ensure proper implementation of the registration system at the grassroots level.
Deputy Director, Economics and Statistics Department, David Khutso, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the overall objectives of the programme. He emphasized the importance of birth and death certificates in the era of digitalization, explaining their role in accessing government services, securing identity, and ensuring accurate demographic records. He also spoke on the responsibilities of registrars, village councils, and Anganwadi workers, stressing that improper registration or negligence is a legal offense with punishable consequences.
