The Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), Government of Nagaland, organised a stakeholders’ sensitisation programme on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY 2.0) at the Multipurpose Hall, DC Office Complex, Phek, on October 30.
DDU-GKY 2.0 is being implemented in Nagaland through NSRLM, with a focus on shifting from basic skill training to end-to-end sustainable livelihood creation for rural youth from poor households.
Addressing the programme as special guest, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS, appreciated the Mission Director, NSRLM, for his presence and interest in the development of Phek district and the welfare of rural youth.
Nguori expressed concern over the rising rate of unemployment in the State and observed that many young people continued to focus primarily on securing government jobs rather than exploring opportunities in the private sector or through various Central and State government schemes.
He said government employment opportunities had become increasingly scarce and could not accommodate all job seekers, urging youths to explore alternative avenues to earn a livelihood and achieve financial sustainability.

He also highlighted the role of churches and village councils in addressing unemployment by creating awareness among rural and underprivileged youth about the Rural Livelihoods Mission and various livelihood-related schemes.
Emphasising the importance of financial independence, Nguori observed that money played a significant role in people’s lives and social standing. He concluded by citing the Chinese proverb, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”
He expressed hope that NSRLM’s initiative would not simply provide financial assistance but equip people with the skills and knowledge to earn a sustainable livelihood.
The programme was chaired by Zhalie Puro, ADPM, Phek district, while the invocation prayer was pronounced by Tekhewe Khutsoh, Associate Pastor, Phek Town Baptist Church.
The keynote address was delivered by Moa Sangtam, Joint Secretary, Rural Development, and Mission Director, NSRLM. A sensitisation session on DDU-GKY was conducted by Menuoneituo Chadi, Chief Operating Officer (Skills), NSRLM.
The programme also featured a parents’ testimony, a short speech and a special number. The vote of thanks was delivered by Shehulu D Vadeo, Area Coordinator (Skills), Chetheba Block.
