‘Samajik Adhikari Shivir’ – a camp for the distribution of aids and assistive devices to persons with disabilities – was conducted on 14 January at DC’s Conference Hall, Longleng.

This was held under the ADIP Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, stated a DIPR report.

The camp was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Longleng in association with ALIMCO and District Administration Longleng.

SDO (C) Longleng, Trongdiba Tongpi Sangtam, NCS spoke on the occasion and interacted with the beneficiaries. He lauded the efforts of the Social Welfare Department and ALIMCO for organising the assessment and distribution camp for those in the district who would need the assistive devices.

Trongdiba Sangtam also requested beneficiaries to use all the appliances sensibly as huge public money was involved in the procurement of the aids and appliances.

DWO in charge Longleng, Longlang Phom, appealed to ALIMCO to hold more assessment camps in different parts of the district in the future to ensure coverage of more beneficiaries.

ALIMCO Officer P&O Supongwati Jamir expressed appreciation to District Administration Longleng and Social Welfare Department Longleng for the tremendous support and enthusiasm shown during the assessment camps held in September last year.

He mentioned that the positive response and feedback were well received by the Ministry and thereby Longleng District was chosen as one of the 67 locations in the country to conduct the ‘Samajik Adhikari Shivir’ distribution programme.

A demonstration on the use of the devices was presented by Suman Kumar, Prosthetist and Orthotist, and Jagganath Sahoo, Audiologist, both from ALIMCO.

The different types of aids and assistive devices distributed among the identified registered beneficiaries included wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, rollators, smart cane, MSIED kits, hearing aids etc.

At the end of the programme, the vote of thanks was proposed by EAC Longleng Dr Samuel Akho Konyak.
