Nagaland Police, on Thursday, pointed out changes in the jaw and dental patterns and discoloration of the teeth as possible signs of Yaba, also called Sunflower, drug abuse.
In the advisory posted in its social media pages, the Police asked parents as well as the public to remain vigilant against such changes so that timely help can be given to suspected drug users “through interventions and rehabilitation”.
The Police said that its investigators discovered the “discernible and visible” pattern while investigating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances cases in the state.
“The users and addicts show visible and prominent physiological changes in the Jaw and dental patterns and discolouration of the teeth of the regular Yaba (Sunflower),” the advisory stated.
It added that these erosions are possibly due to the corrosive effect of the drugs used by ‘oral administration’.

Nagaland Police further said the deformities in the teeth are good initial indicators that a person may be using Sunflower drugs although it may not be conclusive evidence.
The state police have intensified its war against drugs and have arrested several peddlers, traffickers and smugglers in the past few weeks.
