Janata Dal-United JD(U) leader and candidate Senchumo NSN Lotha filed his nomination today at Wokha, Deputy Commissioner office for the ensuing Nagaland state assembly election.

He is contesting from a JD(U) ticket in 37 Tyui AC. Lotha contested twice from the constituency in the 2008 and 2013 general elections. This will be his third contest against sitting BJP MLA and Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune after filing his nominations, Lotha, who is also the president of JD(U) Nagaland unit, asserted that he decided to contest the 2023 election as he was overwhelmed by the mood of the people to change the constituency leader.

I am trying my best in making all efforts to ensure that I capitalise on the mood of the people for a change, and I am very confident that the constituency mood will be fully fulfilled by my candidature, he added.

Lotha informed that the party has decided to field a surgical number of candidates since the party doesn’t want to go for quantity selection, and on this line, he said ‘the party is confident of their strike rate’.

JD(U) is fielding eight candidates including Thongwang Konyak from 46 Mon AC, a former sitting NDPP MLA.

Lotha holds several portfolios within the party as the national secretary and chairman of the North East Coordination Council (NEEC).
