Shiusuthong, the gold medallist at the 36th National Taekwondo Sub-Junior Championship 2023 expressed his aspiration to participate in international level. He said that was happy and satisfied to win the gold medal and said he will practice hard to get Gold medal again.
The Taekwondo Championship culminated on Monday at Cuttack, Odisha with the eight players representing Nagaland having a successful campaign. The highlight being the twin brothers Shiusuthong and Shiuthong winning gold and silver medals respectively.

Shiusuthong struck gold in the under 23 kg category while his elder brother Shiuthong clinched silver in the under 25 kg category.
Shiuthong, silver medallist and twin brother of Shiusuthong, also said that he was happy for been given the opportunity to participate in the national championship. He added that this time he won silver medal so he will prepare better and will target gold medal next time.
Abu Metha, associate vice president of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and also the secretary general of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), visibly elated twitted, “Congrats to Shiusuthong & Shiuthong Tikhir for winning Gold & Silver at the Teakwondo Sub-JuniorNationals. Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, team manager Keneingulie said, “The Championship is conducted with the latest rules of World Taekwondo in which boys were able to adapt to the new rules and able to play in National standard way and they have experienced a lot. The boys prepared well and did their best. All the matches played were very competitive and tough”.
He added, “Our players played and gave their best performance according to their ability, after all it’s a point game and all players loses by 1-2 point gap”.
The rest of the players played in very competitive and tough matches where a single point or two determined the outcome of the match, Keneingulie said.
David M. knocked out his opponent from Jharkhand in the first round, before eventually losing to a player from Bihar by a single point in the under 21 kg category.
While P. Athongti (under 35 kg) won his match against Chandigarh but narrowly lost in the 2nd round against his opponent from Assam. The cut was 1 point, he added.

Nagaland twins clinch gold and silver at National Taekwondo Sub-Junior Championship
Alimthong (under 18 kg), Sudeh (under 27 kg), Hantsukhum (under 29 kg) and Pauziechangbe Herie (under 38 kg) lost in the initial round.
The team comprised of Alimthong, David M, Shiusuthong, Shiuthong, Sudeh, Hantsukhum, P Athongti and Pauziechangbe Herie and was led by Santsuthung Ngullie as the coach and Keneingulie as the manager.
