Council of Nagalim Churches condemns mayhem in Manipur, calls it premeditated

Kohima: CNC questions how leaders and police in Manipur could gang up with ‘hoodlums’ and ‘goons’

The Council of Nagalim Churches (CNC) has expressed ‘deep anguish and displeasure’ over the recent ‘brutal carnage’ in Manipur. The council said in a statement that at its 32nd Annual Conference, held from 4 to 7 May 2023, it concluded that the mayhem in the northeastern state was a ‘premeditated operation committed by insane mob in collusion with people in power.’

CNC stated that it is shocking that people of ‘advanced and civilized community’ would take ‘perverted pleasure in attacking the helpless tribal people.’ It further questioned how leaders and police in Manipur could gang up with ‘hoodlums’ and ‘goons’ responsible for looting and arson.

‘Had there not been God’s providence and the intervention of the Indian para-military forces, no soul of a particular hill people living in the valley would have survived!’ the council added.

‘We condemn this horrific violence, and call upon all the right-thinking people to strongly condemn and denounce such diabolic ruthless individuals who are behind this mayhem,’ the Council of Nagalim Churches stated.

The council conveyed its condolences to grieving families and wished all wounded people a speedy recovery. It also prayed that ‘such mindless acts may ever happen again in the land in future.’
