In an unfortunate incident the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) central office in Kohima was vandalised by unknown miscreants in the wee hours of Saturday, 27 May.
Condemning the mischievous act, Advisor Information Public Relation and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen, in his brief address, during the flag hosting ceremony hoped that the culprits will be booked at the earliest. He also mentioned that it was saddening to see such acts taking place among the Nagas.
Narrating the history of the NSF building conflict, he mentioned that in 1983 when the forest department vacated the building that belongs to the Naga Club, they came to a negotiation that NSF is the natural inheritor and has the right to inherit the legacy of the Naga Club.
After meeting with Vilavor Liegise, the then general secretary of Naga Club, they discussed and paid Rs 500 for rent and that was how they occupied the building, said Imchen.

NSF President Kegwayhun Tep said that the house was the house of all Nagas and that he was deeply saddened to see documents of Naga students and Nagas in general being destroyed.
He said they do not have any suspects as of now but hoped the investigation officer will do a good job in bringing justice.

Meanwhile, Elu Ndang, General Secretary, Naga Hoho also condemned the act and called it “Anti Naga act”. He said that it was a very sad, shocking and barbaric incident and that the attack showed ignorance and was a threat to Naga history and Naga people at large.
He mentioned that the miscreant had attacked the foundation of the Naga people and should be booked at the earliest.
Nagaland Chief Minister, in a statement on Twitter, condemned “the vandalism of the building in Kohima which has NSF and ANCSU office and some shops.” He added that respect for private and public properties is fundamental in a civilized society and appealed to all right-thinking citizens to maintain peace and harmony.
Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton stated that he was disturbed by the act of vandalism. “Fundamental respect for both public & private properties underscores any civilized society and I strongly condemn this act of destruction that undermines our collective peace,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang too posted on Twitter that the act has no place in a civilised society. He said, “To see the Office of NSF being brought to ashes needs to be condemned by one and all. Civility and gentility is a must to maintain a harmonious atmosphere. Let diplomacy and understanding help resolve any issues.”
