Wokha Forest Division hand out 15510 saplings for WED 2023 plantation drive in district

Wokha: DC encourages every citizen to inculcate environment-friendly behaviour

Wokha district celebrates World Environment Day 2023

The Wokha Forest Division office distributed 15510 saplings for a tree plantation drive in Wokha district on World Environment Day (WED) 2023. A drive was carried out from Wokha to Yikhum Village under the initiative of the Lotha Officers’ Association (LOA) in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Nagaland (DEFCC) and Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development (NEPED).

During the short programme held at Public Ground Wokha, K. Libanthung Lotha, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary & TL, NEPED and President Lotha Officers’ Association, flagged off the WED 2023 Avenue plantation and read out the Mission LIFE Pledge. He said that leaders are the cream of the society and as such leaders are supposed to set good examples and good precedence for the people and the society, instead of creating division among the society and urged all officers, especially to set a good example for the welfare of the society, he also urged all officers to give their best service for the benefit of the society wherever one is posted.

Deputy Commissioner, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS urged the people to replicate the good cause in other places as well and encouraged them to practice good environmental habits not just on WED but daily. He also encouraged every citizen to inculcate the right behaviour which is environment-friendly and to sustain it, take it forward and value the environment.

Wokha Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Suman W M Suvichar, IFS and his Department, District Anglers Wokha Nagaland (DAWN), Wokha Village Youth Organisation and Youths from Yikhum Village were present at the event. Various schools also participated in the plantation drive. The theme for WED 2023 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The saplings distributed by Wokha Forest Division included: Bogipoma-2000; Pine-3000; Hollock-1500; Yonchak-400; Walnut-1400; Oak-2500; Cherry-2150; Alder- 260.
