The Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) has condemned the rape of a minor at Tsiesema Village in Kohima district stating that it was “profoundly dismayed and outraged by the heinous and inhuman act towards the crime in the strongest possible terms”.

The statement from the organisation’s president and general secretary mentioned that the alleged crime on the 5-year-old took place on 9 July 2023.

While expressing its solidarity with the rape survivor, the family and the community, NAWO demanded, “the perpetrator(s) must be held accountable for their reprehensible actions and receive appropriate punishment, demonstrating that such acts will not go unpunished or tolerated in any way.”

“No one should ever have to endure a harrowing violation of their rights, dignity and autonomy,” NAWO stated.

It also appealed the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the rape incident and arrest the perpetrator(s) at the earliest, ensuring that the perpetrator(s) face the full force of the law.

The women’s body also urged all like-minded people in the state to condemn the act. “Let us unite in the pursuit of justice, ensuring that such reprehensible deeds remain an exception rather than a tragic norm” NAWO stated.
