The Kohima District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) State Branch extended immediate relief to those affected by the inferno that destroyed two markets and damaged several residential houses at Peraciezie High School Colony in Kohima on 9 September 2023.
The DDMA conducted on-site assessments to gauge the extent of damage and handed out financial assistance house owners and displaced families on 9 September.
Whereas, IRCSN, on Monday, visited the fire break out market site at High School Junction Kohima and distributed relief items, blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits and mosquito nets to the affected families.
DIPR, in its report, mentioned that the cause of the fire remains unknown and that around 113 commercial shops were burnt to ashes. In response to the emergency, seven fire tenders from various fire stations and agencies were promptly deployed to combat the flames and bring the situation under control, it said.
The fire incident received a coordinated response from multiple line departments and organizations, including the Fire and Emergency Services, DDMA, Kohima Municipal Council, District Administration, 1st Assam Rifles, D’ Block, Peraciezie Traders Union, Kohima Village Youth Organization, and other local organizations, DIPR stated.
