The Nagaland State Level Volleyball Referee Exam 2023, organized by the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA) in collaboration with the Nagaland Volleyball Association (NVA) and the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, concluded its program today at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung, Nagaland.
Tiameren Aier, General Secretary of NVA, lauded the MDVA for their successful organization of the Referee examination. He commended the trainees, recognizing them as responsible individuals, expressing pride in their commitment to the sport. Aier also assured MDVA of continued support from NVA and highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, looking to the Nagaland government and the Nagaland Olympic Association to provide for the volleyball community in the state.
Dr. Harish Kumar Tiwari, a Certified FIVB Coach and Deputy Director of Sports at NU, Lumami, lauded MDVA for hosting the first-ever Nagaland State Volleyball Referee Examination. He appreciated the dedication of all the participants and encouraged them to keep practicing and serve the community. Dr. Tiwari offered his assistance for any future needs and emphasized the importance of coordination and teamwork within the sport.
Congratulating all the successful examinees, Ramesh Babu Vidyarthi, a National Referee with VFI and DAVV Coach, encouraged them to explore opportunities beyond the State, aiming for National and International levels. Vidyarthi highlighted the historical significance of this referee examination and stressed the importance of having the Official Rule Book, referee guidelines, and instructions readily available. He encouraged group discussions and updated the trainees on rule changes, including a reduction in the serving zone area from 8 m to 6.5 m. Vidyarthi urged the referees to represent NVA and MDVA with honor and to be readily available to support tournaments. He emphasized that rules are meaningful when continuously updated through participation in various tournaments.

Trainees expressed their gratitude to the organizing committee for equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge, emphasizing the significance of passing on these skills to the younger generation and bringing recognition to Nagaland and India in the sport.
Allen Imchen, Vice President of MDVA, updated on the delayed 2020 Silver Jubilee celebration due to the pandemic but considered the successful culmination of the referee examination as a fulfilment of the celebration’s goals. He acknowledged the resource persons and the trainees, stressing the importance of cooperation among referees with diverse strengths. Imchen called for upholding ethics and the commitment to the pledge taken by the referees. He also looked forward to future support from NVA for similar referee examinations.
Certifications were awarded to all the referees who successfully completed the Practical exam, Scoresheets calculation examination, Theory, Viva, and attended the training. Merangnok Pongen from Mokokchung district emerged as the top scorer with 88 marks. Out of 37 participants, 36 successfully cleared the examination, with one was unable to participate due to health issues. Participants representing Mokokchung (27), Tuensang (6), Longleng (2), Wokha (1), and Peren (1), attended the referee exam with the lone female referee hailing from Longleng district.
