In the ongoing MDFA 2023 Tournament at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung, Soyim Sports Society (SSS) secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Legendary Yeomanly Misfits with a convincing 5-2 victory in the first match of the day.

No goals were scored by either team until halftime, resulting in a 0-0 scoreline. Suyimmayang (J/No.10) of SSS broke the deadlock by scoring the first goal at the 50th-minute mark, while Akangkokba (J/No. 11) added another goal in the 54th minute through a penalty kick. Yotsase Sangtem (J/No.19) of Legendary managed to find the net for his team in the 64th minute. SSS’s Temjenyuba (J/No. 01) secured two goals in the 74th and 84th minutes.

Lijungshi Sangtem (J/No.11) of Legendary scored the second goal for his team in the 79th minute from a penalty kick. Limatongzuk (J/No. 12) from SSS scored the fifth goal in the 86th minute, confirming their spot in the quarterfinals from Pool C in the MDFA tournament.

In the second match of the day, Super Seniors clinched their first victory in the tournament by defeating Lomuden FC with a final score of 2-1. Imsuonen (J/No. 11) of Lomuden FC scored the first goal in the 78th minute, when the game was close to full time with only 12 minutes remaining. However, Super Senior’s Temjenmeren (J/No.7) made a comeback with a goal in the 86th minute and added another in the 90+1 minute to secure their place in the quarterfinals from Pool D.

Thursday’s matches will feature the Defending Champion Telongjem FC taking on NU Lumami in the first match, and Zonipang SA will face Konyak Students Union (KSUM) in the second match of the MDFA tournament.

Dare Devils (AR), Araka United FC, 16 United Brothers, Legendary Yeomanly Misfits, Zonipang SA, and Lomuden FC did not secure a place in the quarterfinals and have been eliminated from the tournament.
