The Deputy Commissioner of Peren Vineet Kumar, IAS has notified in an order that the Police and Transport department are the only authorized personnel to carry out patrolling and checking of vehicles on the highway. “No individual/organization/village can take law into their own hand nor can they interfere in the activities of Law enforcement authorities,” stated the order issued on October 27.

Citing instances in the recent past, where the public has been carrying out checking and stopping of vehicles along the National highway within Peren district, the DC noted that this has resulted in unwarranted intrusions, harassment and disorder. The order also reminded that highways are meant for smooth movement of persons/vehicles and transportation of goods and commodities.

“Henceforth, be it known to all citizens that indulging in such activities along the National highways or any other State highway /passage shall be dealt with seriously as per relevant section of the Law,” ordered the DC.

The Village Councils have also been directed to inform their respective village members/organisation to refrain from such practices within their jurisdiction.
