On the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of the “Iron Man of India,” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) was observed with great reverence in Kohima on October 31, informed the DIPR.
The Kohima District Administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant, in collaboration with various heads of offices, organized a solemn Pledge Taking Ceremony. The program was held at the DC Conference Hall in Kohima. The event saw enthusiastic Participation from all officers, staff, and employees, coming together to pay tribute to the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Addressing the gathering at the Pledge Taking Ceremony, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant reflected on India’s challenging path to unity and independence. He highlighted that in 1947, when India gained independence, it consisted of approximately 600 princely states and independent kingdoms, and the nation was not yet ready to function as a unified entity. It was the visionary leadership of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that united this diverse nation into one cohesive whole. He noted that India has since evolved into a more powerful global entity. Ramnikant emphasized that Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is observed throughout the country to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of the Indian people in the face of threats to the nation’s security, unity, and integrity.
The National Unity Day Pledge was administered by Sub-Divisional Officers (SDO) Sardar Kohima and SDO Jakhama, Nockpai Konyak.

The Nagaland Police also commemorated the National Unity Day at the Conference Hall of PHQ, Nagaland.
The event commenced with opening remarks by Tokavi Achumi, AIGP, who chaired the program. Rupin Sharma, IPS, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Nagaland, delivered a brief yet impactful speech regarding the significance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, according to a DIPR report. This day is observed to promote nationalism, unity, integrity, and solidarity among the citizens of India. It marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, often referred to as the “Iron Man of India.” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a pivotal role in establishing the foundation of modern policing and underlined the importance of safeguarding India’s security, unity, and integrity. He further stressed that India’s true strength lies in its unity in diversity, and encouraged all citizens to work together for the cause of peace, progress, and prosperity. Rupin Sharma emphasized the need for unwavering commitment to a united, strong, and prosperous India.
The program also included a Pledge-taking ceremony, where participants reaffirmed their dedication to the unity and integrity of the nation.
The event concluded with closing remarks by K.P.A Ilyas, IPS, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), highlighting the importance of upholding the values of unity and integrity, not just on this special day but throughout the year.
