To sensitize women SHG members on their roles and responsibility as well as role of women in water related activities,the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under AMRUT 2.0, has initiated the project to organize a unique initiative called the “Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign” in collaboration with the National Urban Livelihood Mission to celebrate “Jal Diwali” from November 7 to 9 where various districts in Nagaland are organising site visits for women.
In Kohima, a site visit was organised to the Water Treatment Plants (WTP) in Jotsoma today, by the Atal Mission for Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in collaboration with National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) and the Public Health Engineering
Er.Medozeu Chatsu, Junior Engineer PHED Kohima Urban led the participants to the sites and explained all about the water treatment process. Kiniholi Kinimi, State Mission Director, DAY – NULM, State Urban Development Agency, Directorate of Urban Development said 22 SHGs from Kohima district under DAY-NLUM with a total of 32 participants attended the unique initiative as Jal Diwali- “Water for Women-Women for Water ‘’ which has been held from November 7. The initiative will continue till November 9.

“The Women from Self-Help Groups (SHGS) have the opportunity to visit Water Treatment Plants (WTPs). These visits provided them with an understanding of the various processes involved in supplying clean and safe drinking water to households. Furthermore, they have been educated about the water quality testing procedures that ensure the citizens receive high-quality water,” stated Kinimi.

The main objective of these visits is to foster a sense of belonging and ownership among women towards the water infrastructure. “Moreover, these visits will create opportunities for women to interact through interviews, promoting inclusivity and involvement,” added Kinimi.
The DAY-NULM SHGs’ journey begins at Razhu Point Kohima and then Tour to the Water Treatment Plant at Jotsoma PHED for a sensitization on “Water for women: Women for Water” followed by an interaction with SHGs/Testimonials.
Phek
The Department of Urban Development Phek in collaboration with Public Health Engineering Department, Phek conducted a site visit for the members of NULM, Self Help Groups (SHGs) to the Water Treatment Plant, Phek. The visit has been conducted under the aegis of AMRUT 2.0 for water secure cities, under the theme JAL DIWALI “Women for Water, Water for Women” w.e.f. November 7-9 to sensitize women SHG members on their roles and responsibility as well as role of women in water related activities. The main objective of the visit is to foster a sense of belongings and ownership among women towards the water infrastructure.
The resource person Er. Weshusie Pojar, JE PHED Phek, emphasized on the importance of the role of women in water management in our society. He spoke on biological contaminations causing short term diseases like typhoid, dengue while chemical contamination of water may have a long term impact on health. The members of the SHGs were shown the treatment process of the water received from two sources starting from the inlet to the outlet of the slow sand filters. With the help of testing kits, the quality of the water source was tested and process demonstrated to the women SHG members. The Secretary, DUDA Phek pronounced the vote of thanks to all participants while also stating that with more water supply schemes being implemented in the Town, the role of SHGs in water management will be of key importance. A total of 30 women SHG members attended the program where they were also acknowledged with souvenirs and field kits.
