First Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament 2023 kicks off in Mokokchung District

Mokokchung: SP Manoj Kumar emphasizes spirit of socialism among officers and envisioned tournament as platform in fostering human relationships

The inaugural program of the First Edition of the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament 2023 in Mokokchung, organized under the aegis of District Planning Development Board was held at the Multi-Sports Complex on 23rd November 2023. The inaugural program witnessed participation from government servants across various departments of the Mokokchung District.

Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC Mokokchung, and convenor of the organizing committee, welcomed participants, emphasizing the tournament’s significance in bringing together public servants. He urged everyone to set an example by combating plastic use and fostering a pollution-free environment. Humtsoe underscored the importance of unity and highlighted the role of sports in maintaining physical health.

In his address, Manoj Kumar, IPS, SP Mokokchung, applauded the Heads of Departments for organizing the event and encouraged participants to showcase enthusiasm and determination. Kumar emphasized the spirit of socialism among officers and envisioned the tournament as a platform in fostering human relationships. He highlighted sports as a key focus area for the government, with Mokokchung being a sports centre aimed at identifying and nurturing individual talents.

The representative from Ao Senden in his greetings expressed gratitude to the organizing committee and all Heads of Departments for uplifting young talents through this unique tournament. Encouraging good character and perseverance, he stressed that in sports, one must embrace both victory and defeat, turning each setback into a stepping stone. Trust among players and the quality of play within a short period were highlighted as crucial aspects.

Invocation was delivered by Teyalo Seb, Pastor of Tenyimia Church, while the District Sports Officer administered the oath-taking ceremony.

The three-day tournament from 23rd to 25th November featuring BADMINTON, TABLE TENNIS, CARROM, CHESS, and ARMWRESTLING, will unfold across the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Multi Sports Complex, and Indoor TT Stadium.
