Yogendra Upadhyaya, Uttar Pradesh Minister of Higher Education, Science & Technology, Electronics & Information Technology caused an outrage on Friday as a video surfaced of him posing with the inconsolable mother of Rajouri martyr Captain Shubham Gupta despite her cries for her son. The woman was pleading for the exhibition to stop and saying that she does not want anything but her son.

27-year-old Captain Shubham Gupta was martyred along with four other Indian Army personnel while fighting terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir on 22nd November 2023. He was from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, the constituency of Yogendra Upadhyaya.

The video showing insensitive Upadhayaya doing a photo op holding a cheque while others hold the late Captain’s mother to stay put has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition and netizens.

The video also shows another person, whose identity is unknown, holding a cheque and posing for photos.
