Wokha commemorates World AIDS Day

The District AIDS Prevention Control Unit Wokha under the aegis of WNP+ Wokha, NUN TI Wokha, NUN LWS Wokha, Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre Bhandari TI, Zion Welfare Society Baghty TI and PATH INDIA organized World AIDS Day under the Global theme 2023 “Let Communities Lead” today at Town Hall Baghty Town, Wokha.

Theme Speaker Wetso Lasushe (NSC) EAC Baghty stated that the community of PLHIV, Drugs Users’, service provider and public involved, need to lead because they know the vulnerable people better and they are there to connect. Lasushe elucidated that events underscored the needs where the world can end AIDS, with communities leading the way. *Organizations of communities living with, at risk of, or affected by HIV are in the frontline of progress in the HIV response. Communities connect people with person-centered public health services, build trust, innovate, monitor implementation of policies and services, and hold providers accountable,” stated Lasushe.

“This World AIDS Day is more than a celebration of the achievements of communities; it is a call to action to enable and support communities in their leadership role and to unleash the full potential of community leadership to enable the end of HIV/AIDS,” added Lasushe who concluded the session by quoting Psalms 139; 13 &14 and stated that through the theme, there is a hope that by 2030 HIV/AIDS will be eliminate as a public health threat.

Abeni Lotha, President WNP+, Thunchanbemo, PM Zion Welfare Society Baghty TI, Enok Kithan  Asst. Director, Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre Bhandari TI spoke on the community strengthening. Others who spoke at the program included Baghty Town Council, Eloe Hoho Baghty town, Students Union Baghty Town.

The event was chaired by David K Lotha, Field Mentor PATH INDIA, while Nchumbemo, Catechist Baghty Town Catholic Church invoked blessing. The welcome address was delivered by Hunali Neog, M&E Zion Welfare Society Baghty.

A special presentation was made by  Wobenthung Tsopoe and Hunali Neog and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mhathung Khenchung, PM Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre Bhandari followed by benediction by Shri. Longshipemo, Youth Director Baghty Town Baptist Church.
