Additional Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Alongdhimen Jamir, NCS today said that he has  received reports of unlawful dumping of animal carcasses, including pigs and other animals, at the Longleng Town Council (LTC) Municipal Dumping Site which leads to significant public health hazards and environmental pollution.

Stating that improper disposal of waste, particularly animal carcasses, poses serious environmental and health risks, he said such practices can contaminate surrounding areas, promote the spread of diseases, and contribute to other public health concerns.

In accordance with the guidelines set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), animal carcasses must be disposed of using scientifically approved methods, such as incineration or deep burial, to minimize health risks and prevent environmental damage, he stated.

The Environment Protection Act provides a legal framework for preventing pollution and promoting sustainable environmental practices and whereas, under the Solid Waste Management Rules issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), proper disposal of all waste, including animal carcasses, is mandated.

Therefore, the ADC has notified for strict prohibition of any individual or group to dump, abandon, or dispose of animal carcasses at the Longleng Town Council’s Municipal Dumping Site or any undesignated open space within the municipal limits.

Any violation of this order will result in legal penalties as per the applicable provisions of the law, he warned.
