M Nyamo Odyuo won the 7th edition of the Annual Open Air Rifle Shooting Championship organised by the Wokha District Rifle Association at Likya Hall, Wokha on 30th December 2023. 50 shooters participated in the event.
Rentsanthung Odyuo secured the second position while Liyingbemo Kithan came in the third place. Mhonbemo Kikon and Yanrenthung Humtsoe won the fourth and fifth places respectively. All the participants were given certificates of participation.
Ex-Assistant Professor (Shooting), National Sports University, ISSF D Coach and ISSF B Judge, NIS Shooting Coach & Secretary, Nagaland Shooting Sports Association (NSSA) Hito Swu graced the event as the Special Guest. Speaking at the award ceremony, Swu highlighted that the sport of shooting is a pursuit of excellence encompassing mental acuity, physical prowess, and motor skills.
He said that the Nagas have inherent shooting talents referring to Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s acknowledgement of the advantages in the Mongolian race’s body structure. Swu stated that age cannot be a barrier to seek shooting as a profession or a hobby and emphasised the importance of maintaining consistency. Further he urged anyone interested in pursuing the sport as a profession to approach him and the NSSA.
The Shooting coach also imparted technical demonstration and highlighted various shooting techniques, functions and strategic approaches that was appreciated by all participants.
The program was chaired by Leonard Mozhui, Invocation Prayer was pronounced by Sumit Tariyani, Crossway Church, Wokha, Special Number was presented by Aremo Jami and friends while the Vote of Thanks was declared by Yampothung Jami.
Earlier in the program, a moment of silence was held to pay respect for the former member of Wokha District Rifle Association, Lt Yanbemo Ngullie.
