The 48th Imtimeren Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy, organized by Longsa Sports Association and sponsored by Concerned Citizens and Sporting Aficionados under the theme “To foster the young generation,” concluded today at Salang Lenden, Longsa, Mokokchung, after commencing on January 5.

G-sports Mokokchung emerged as the champions of the 48th Imtimeren Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy 2023, while Fighting Peace secured the Runners-up position with a scoreline of 1st: 25-18, 2nd: 25-12, 3rd: 25-23 in a straight set of Best of Five.
The champion team received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, along with certificates and a trophy, while the Runners-up were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 30,000, along with certificates and trophy.

Individual prizes included the Best Spiker, received by Watinuken Jersey Number 8; Best Setter by Tongpangsunep Jersey Number 9; Best Libero, received by Chubamanen from G-Sports Mokokchung; and Player of the Tournament, received by Bendangtemsu Jersey Number 7 from Fighting Peace.

A total of six teams, namely Lion’s Club Longsa, G-Sports Mokokchung, Fighting Peace in Pool A, and Eagle’s Club Longsa, Evergreen Club Ungma, and UYC Moalenden in Pool B, participated in the tournament.

During the inaugural program on January 5, Opanglemba GB applauded the Longsa Sports Association for keeping up with the constantly evolving sports scene. He encouraged the association to work tirelessly in providing a platform for young sporting enthusiasts by introducing other sports in the future along with the open volleyball tournament. Opanglemba also exhorted the participating teams and players to give their best, as it reflects their character and helps build a confident, humble attitude towards self and society. He emphasized how a sportsman can bring positive changes in all aspects of society.

During the closing ceremony, N.Takala, Teacher (Longsa watsü) delivered a brief speech on how a sportsman should behave in different situations and stated that winning once does not guarantee a future without losses or vice versa. She urged the players to remember their creator in times of joy and sorrow, which will help them become winners in life.
