Imkong L Imchen, Advisor for IPR & Soil & Water Conservation, on Monday, expressed support for the Central Government’s decision to remove the Free Movement Regime (FMR) from the Indo Myanmar border areas. Interacting with the media after a government program at Khensa in Mokokchung, Imchen emphasized the importance of a clear boundary demarcation between India and Myanmar.

The Advisor also pointed out the serious issue of drug trafficking in the region, particularly from Southeast Asia, and the issues of insurgencies in the northeast. He further questioned the need for the FMR and called for its immediate removal.

Moreover, Imkong L Imchen acknowledged the difficulty to define the term “Naga” and urged a realistic approach, emphasizing that Nagaland alone should not bear the responsibility of accommodating the entire Naga race. He questioned the relevance of Naga integration when not actively pursued by all involved parties.

Further, in response to queries about his stance on Naga integration, Imkong L Imchen maintained that it is not solely the responsibility of Nagas in Nagaland and suggested that opposition might be necessary if involvement is not widespread. He encouraged the younger generation to voice their thoughts on the future.
