The Nagaland State Human Rights Commission today mentioned that it has taken cognizance of the assault of 19 year old college students by Police personnel. The Commission has taken cognizance of the alleged brutal assault committed on Moalong Jamir, a student of Tetso College on January 29, 2024 by anti-vehicle theft squad (AVTS) of Nagaland Police and has asked the DG police to submit a report within one week, informed the DIPR.
Since its existence, the Commission has also taken up a number of cases including the two Custodial death cases which occurred last year at the Central Jail Dimapur and at the Chümoukedima Police station. The two cases are proceeding on fast speed and they are likely to be disposed soon.

According to DIPR, the Commission has visited the police stations, Jails, hospitals, health centers, Govt. Schools and public distribution centres in the District of Kohima, Dimapur, Chumoukidema and Bhandari Sub-Division under Wokha District. After the visits, interaction with the officials of the departments has been held and have called for action taken reports.
In continuation of its effort to see that human rights are promoted and their violations prevented, the Commission has been embarking on tours to remote areas of the State beginning from Mon and Longleng district during the third week of February, 2024. During the tour, anyone is welcome to meet the members of the Commission for interaction or submission of any complaints relating to violation of their human rights. During the visit, the Commission will visit police stations, jails, hospitals, health centers and public distribution centers besides interacting with CSOs including Church leaders and Govt. officials. Such visits or tours will continue during the coming months.
