The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has today demanded Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor, School Education & SCERT to retract his statements directed towards the Ao Tribe specifically within six days. In a press statement, the AKM condemned the statement made by Advisor Yhome that Ao and Sumi candidates will not be recruited for the post of Primary Teacher for the next ten years.

“Such a statement which is diabolic in nature is not expected from a responsible and intellectual representative who is considered as the Visionary leader by the Nagas. We expect our  Advisor to re-polish his divisive mindset while holding the responsibility of School Education department that belongs to the entire Naga citizens,” stated the AKM.

“At this phase when the Naga society at large is collectively striving towards a transitional era where our aspiring Naga youths irrespective of tribe/clan are venturing and accommodating various avenues in both the Government & private sectors on merit basis, sidelining and negating a particular tribesmen over the recruitment policies to be based on linguistic ratios is totally regrettable and a blatant attempt to obliterate and fragment the aspirations of our young aspiring Naga youths at large,” stated the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) today in a press release issued in response to the recent discordant statement made by Advisor Yhome during the Consultative meeting with the NSF & ENSF on February 7.

The AKM condemned and expressed resentment over what it considered as ‘prejudicial and insensitive remarks’.

The AKM also pondered on the notion that if the same policies of maintaining Linguistic ratios for recruitment are exercised and implemented in all other departments on the pretext of reforming the department, it will be the ‘dooms day for our aspiring Naga youths in particular and the Naga Society in general’.

The student body expressed the firm belief that all candidates belonging to every tribe has been given equal opportunity to sit for such Government post, and therefore, such kind of statement must not be made without thorough reasoning.

“Recruitment must be made purely on the basis of merit and not based on tribes. It discriminates against those appointed candidates who have secured the post through hard work and honesty. We strongly condemn this statement as it not only provokes more tribal tensions in Nagaland, which is very much prevalent, but also discourages future aspirants who spend their time and effort to acquire a teaching degree,” stated the AKM.

It further demanded a clarification from the Advisor of SCERT to explain on what grounds the statement has been made.

“The  Advisor must retreat his illusive attempt to morally and psychologically fragment the integrity of our young aspiring youths of the two Tribes and continue his effort to reform the department with an inclusive intent,” asserted the AKM.
