IWD 2024: Nagaland Legislators acknowledge achievements of women, calls for gender equality

Legislators from Nagaland led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio wished all on the occasion International Women’s Day 2024 which is being celebrated across the world today. The theme of IWD 2024 is ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’.

In his message, CM Rio acknowledged the incredible achievements, strength and resilience of women around the world. “To accelerate gender equity & amplify women’s voices for social impact, we must work for their economic empowerment & self-sufficiency,” he stressed in a post on X.

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, noted that “Women’s contributions form the backbone of our society” but said that the day is not just about acknowledgment but a call for gender equality.  Patton said that IWD is about “creating an inclusive world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to achieve her full potential, without discrimination or bias” and urged all to “pledge to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, and be inspired by the strength, courage, and perseverance of women throughout history and in our lives today.”

Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, who completed one year in office yesterday (7th March) after becoming the first woman to become a Minister in the history of Nagaland, celebrated the strength, resilience and determination of women.

Minister of Public Health Engineering and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, in his message wished all mothers, sisters and daughters on a happy IWD and said, “Your grace can move mountains, your indomitable spirit uplifts the meek and your sheer determination makes you inimitable.”

Advisor for Information and Public Relations (IPR) and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen, urged all to continue to uphold and support women around the world today. Together, we can achieve equality and empowerment to all, he said on X.

Member of Lok Sabha S Phangnon Konyak said in her message, “Our lives have many unseen stories which we only know of. Our struggles, in many cases, go unnoticed and unappreciated but that does not deter us. We continue to weave tales of resilience, hope and strength. Happy International Women’s Day!”
