Half-Marathon Race held in Wokha to encourage Voter Education and Participation

As part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), to promote voter education and electoral participation, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer in Wokha organized a Half-Marathon race for students of Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha on March 19 at 6:30AM. The race, which began at Traffic Police Point Wokha and ended at GHSS Wokha, saw enthusiastic participation from both male and female students.

Hangkai Konyak emerged as the winner in the women’s category, with Lothungbeni Kikon securing second place and Zuchanbeni Humtsoe finishing third. In the men’s category, Puchong claimed the first prize, followed by Merichan Ngullie in second place, and Y Renjanthung Kikon in third.

SDO Civil Wokha and SVEEP Nodal Officer Nuhuta Tunyi spoke on the importance of voting, emphasizing that it is a fundamental right for every citizen. Tunyi highlighted the significance of preparing young participants to become future voters and encouraged them to spread awareness about voting among their peers and community members.

Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners, while all participants received certificates of participation. The event aimed to promote civic responsibility and active engagement in the democratic process within the community.
