Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio addressing the Legislative Assembly on 20 September 2022.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also Minister in-charge of Personnel and Administrative Reforms stated today that it was high time to review the reservation policy.

Rio stated this while responding to MLA Yitachu who said certain technical posts in various departments are not being reserved for backward tribes. He requested the chief minister to extend the reservation of technical posts to the backward tribes if they are qualified. Yitachu also requested the chief minister to at least come up with a government standing policy on this.

MLA Yitachu said certain technical posts in various departments are not being reserved for backward tribes.

Rio was of the view that some areas or tribes need to be included in the reservation while some can be removed from the reservation policy. He also said that review is also needed regarding the percentage of reservation for backward tribes.

However, Rio pointed out that the cabinet decision is to review all these points after the completion of the next census so that the state government can do it directly and bring a new policy where it will satisfy maximum of the citizens who are demanding reservation, inclusion or its removal. All those policies will come after the next completion of census operation, the chief minister added.
