The farmers of Singrip village under Kiphire district are currently in turmoil after their crops were destroyed on May 8 following heavy rains accompanied by hailstones.
Multiple jhum fields numbering about 20 households were reportedly destroyed. The farmers has given up their hopes and dreams of reaping a good yield as their survival of their families have been directly damaged because of the storm and heavy rainfall.
According to sources, the major damages has been caused due to the deteriorating condition of the Kiphire to Lukhami road. The road covers a length of around 40 Km with only 10 km strech of blacktopping with a major part of the road without proper drainage, thus forcing the rain to drain the slushy mud deposits downhill destroying the cultivation.
It has also been reported that another factor is the flash flood caused by the heavy downpour from the upper field areas affecting the jhum field in the lower lands.
The district disaster management are currently surveying the incident and grievances of the affected families, collecting proper detail of the affected site.

Some villagers have also claimed that they have not being compensated for the August 2022 disaster where heavy rainfall destroyed massive area of field under Singrip village. Despite filling up the proper paper works as required by the government, they are yet to receive any relief funds for their property damaged two years ago, as reported by the VDB secretary of Singrip village under Kiphire district.
At the moment we are yet to see any positive response on the side of the government department to their grievances, said the VDB Secretary
In the matter of relief fund regarding August 2022 field destruction due to heavy rainfall at Singrip village the district disaster management reported that the department has done its part in forwarding the grievances of the affected famers to the upper office desk however, the release of relief funds from the state government for intervention may take months or years.
Currently, the department is also in touch with the recently affected families and elders of the village in the matter to help them proceed their grievances forward to the state government for intervention, stated the VDB Secretary.
