The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) issued a press release today expressing their distress over the decision taken by the All Nagaland Ad hoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch to go on an indefinite hunger strike in their fight for service regularisation.

After four days of a silent sit-in protest outside the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima, the ANATG 2015 batch had taken the decision on Thursday to begin an indefinite hunger strike from today.

“This decision…does not augur well for the students’ community who are already deprived of their day-to-day learning due to the absence of the teachers from their place of posting due to the ongoing agitation,” stated the NSF in the press release.

The organisation appealed to the agitating teachers to “reconsider their mode of protest against the Government’s inaction” and also not to compromise the process of education.

The NSF also made an appeal to the government and “the department concerned” to handle the issue “objectively” and not to delay in bringing about the “desired solution”.

“The continued stalemate between the two parties with the authorities concerned treading lightly on the issue is only aggravating the situation with the students’ community at the receiving end,” wrote the NSF.
