National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was observed today at Mount Olive College Kohima. The programme was organised by Voluntary Blood Donors Association (VBDA) Kohima and supported by Nagaland Aids Control Society (NSACS), Blood Band NHAK, Red Ribbon club, Mopongchuket Student’s Union Kohima, and Imprint and Fusion Press.

The theme for this year’s Day was ‘Donating Blood is an act of Solidarity, Join the Effort to save Lives’, adopted from the 2022 World Blood Donor Day’s theme.

The special guest of the programme, Project Director Nagaland State AIDS Control Society Dr.\ Akuo Sorhie said the day was important because the need of the hour is to make people aware of the facts and myths about blood donation to overcome the fear, ignorance, and misconception associated with the noble cause.

She urged the blood donors to continue to be ambassadors of this life-saving noble act.

National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is observed on 1 October every year across the country to raise awareness about blood donation and promote voluntary blood donation in the country. On this occasion various government and non-governmental organizations organize blood donation camps and other awareness activities across the country to celebrate the day.

To celebrate Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Blood bank Naga Hospital Authority Kohima awarded certificates to three organizations – Voluntary Blood Donors Association Kohima, Blood Caritas, and Network of Blood Donors for their contributions in the movement.

VBDAK has launched an Android application called the ‘Nagaland Blood Donors’ where one can get register as a Voluntary Blood Donor to donate as well as to receive Blood in times of need. VBDAK has been assisting many patients in times of emergency through voluntary blood donations.

The Association sincerely thanked all the Voluntary Blood Donors for saving lives by giving their blood. 32 volunteers donated their blood at the donation drive held after the formal function.
