The Kohima Sümi Hoho celebrated Tülüni festival, a premier festival of Sumi Naga tribe, on 8th July 2024 at official resident of Commissioner and Secretary, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, in New Ministers’ Hill, Kohima.
DIPR informed that the primary objective of holding such jubilation event was to pass down the baton of valuing traditional values to the upcoming generation. The event was attended by 19 colony chairman and secretary.
President of Kohima Sümi Hoho, Shiwoto Wotsa, chaired the event and shared about the need to inculcate the value of festival celebration to the upcoming generation.
Tülüni festival host, Kikheto Sema, IAS, briefed the gathering about the significance of Tuluni festival and how it holds immense importance to every Sümi village and community.
He stressed that since Tülüni festival is primarily related to agricultural activities, he expressed deep concern over less engagement in agricultural activities in rural areas and stressed the need to revive agricultural practices since it is deeply connected with Naga tradition.
Sema also urged the citizens of urban dwellers to rededicate their efforts in their proficient vocations. He further urged the Sümi community to foster unity among ourselves and be an agent of change among other tribe. As the Tülüni festival is all about hygiene, hard work, and fostering community unity, he expressed belief that such traits will be exhibited in the Sümi community in particular and Nagas in general.
In the event, Rev Dr. Kiyeto Sema, Pastor SABCK offered a special prayer for the Nagas and Sümi and Khekavi Yeptho, Pastor SBCK pronounced benediction.
